Style: video game music
Primary Emotions/Themes: a fantastic little soundtrack that sparks all kinds of joy
Thoughts: I don't understand why some soundtracks take off an others don't. This quirky little game has one of the best soundtracks I've heard in a long while. Yet despite this the record has been siting in stock for years... I don't understand.
The music strikes a perfect balance of sounding like a video game soundtrack, yet still sounding good on its own. The instruments used sound like uncompressed 16 and 32 bit sound chips from the 90's, and that is one of my favorite things in modern gaming soundtracks. I love the sound of retro music, but if I can get that sound in crystal clear quality it's even better. Rouge Legacy does this expertly.
These melodies get stuck in my head for days a a time, the retro parts mixed with the more modern instrumentation give the soundtrack a unique feel and also remind me of my struggles getting through that ever changing castle. What a lovely little album.
