Style: black metal
Primary Emotions/Themes:
Thoughts: I'm not sure how I got this album. I think it may have been a bonus album to a distro order at some point. However it happened is neither here nor there, what matters is that this is the album of the moment.
Niht play a rather standard fare black metal. The riffs utilize two guitars that alternate between full chords and more traditional tremolo picked note progressions. The two guitars will often duel with each other creating a rather interesting interplay in the way that the riffs evolve. On top of this the bass is fully audible - a rarity in black metal - and it adds an additional layer to the dance that the stringed instruments put on display.
The drums and vocals are along for the ride but the riffs really are the main star here. The vocals really do nothing for me; they are a high pitched shriek that every black metal band since the dawn of time has used. The drums are merely there to fill out the sound, there is nothing really interesting about them.
Niht won't win any awards for originality, but what they do they do well. The riffs at points will catch my attention even when I'm preoccupied with something else - never a bad thing. Overall though this one is going to be on the back burner most of the time. The riffs aren't enough for me to come back to the album on a regular basis and I have more than enough black metal to keep me busy for eons.
