Entry - 1533 - Thangorodrim - Akallbabeth

Style: classic dungeon synth

Primary Emotions/Themes: The Fall of Numenor

Thoughts: All things must come to an end, so was it with the First Age of Middle Earth. I will not befoul the writings of J.R.R. and Christopher Tolkein here as their prose are infinitely greater than my own. Read the Samarillion for the true recounting of the Fall of Numenor... as recounted in Akallbabeth.

Thangorodrim has attempted their own version of this epic tale through the medium of dungeon synth. Two songs have been designated to interpret this troubled time in the history of Middle Earth: Númenor, and The Felling of Nimloth.

Both songs are well over ten minutes in length and easily justify the play time. As one would expect from a concept such as this the music is epic; often consisting of long drawn out melodies that bring to mind larger than life scenes. Sweeping valleys, forests as far as the eye can see, the great trees of the Valinor and the near infinite light they give off.

Thangorodrim will continue to be one of my favorite dungeon synth projects. The music that this project has produced has become some of the finest examples of what classic dungeon synth sounds like in a modern context. Every single one of the EP's as well as the two full length albums are top tier, I can't speak highly enough of them.

Each one of these four EP's tells a different story of the Legendarium of J.R.R. Tolkien. Each one has its own identity, yet they all fall squarely into the majesty that is Thangorodrim. A fitting tribute indeed.
