Style: black metal with gothic influences
Thoughts: What a difference a few months makes. The debut album from Cradle was full of death metal influence and had all sorts of experimentation that the band did not have in any other release. Vempire on the other hand... this is where the definitive Cradle sound can be heard first. The true birthplace of the band.
There are so many good riffs here, the Iron Maiden influence is in full force. The keyboards have now taken front and center. Female vocals are now featured on most songs, and of course Dani has come into his own. Everything has come together for the band.
Not only does Vempire define their sound, it is perhaps one of the best examples of what makes Cradle great in their early works. The intensity and passion are so much stronger here than they are on the modern releases. Everything sounds like they are truly having fun playing this music rather than it being a job. I love it.
Even though there are only six tracks on this EP, the quality of them is incredibly high. This is right up there with Dusk and Cruelty for the band's best work. Going back on so many bands early works these days has been a real joy, it reminds me of the birth of extreme metal and how there were truly no rules. Cradle is one shining example of that on Vempire and the releases that came immediately after. It was a beautiful time to be a metal fan.
