Style: Experimental, traditional Japanese, old time music
Primary Emotions/Themes: a continuation of the excellent window into pre-modern Japan
Thoughts: The trilogy continues with the second offering looking into Kofu in pre-Meji era Japan. The entire album has a stronger instrumental leaning than the previous. That means more piano, more flute, more Japanese guitar, more melodies, more everything.
This is my favorite entry into the Kofu trilogy. While not as easy to digest as the first entry, the details hidden in this albums mix are worth digging into. The way the samples are put together brings about a deep sense of contentment with me that is rare. It's just so strange... in the best way possible.
The Kofu series is where my infatuation with Meitei really began to take hold. These first two entries have created such a unique and yet nostalgic feeling within me every time I listen that I find myself coming back to them frequently. Essential listening... even if it is just once.
