Style: Synthwave, industrial metal
Primary Emotions/Themes: A soundtrack with a kickass metal backing
Thoughts: I used to have a large portion of Master Boot Records discography... then the great synthwave purge happened and now only Virtuaverse.OST remains. It stands alone amongst its fallen brethren, the lone survivor.
Mast Boot Record's style is easy to sum up: synthwave leads with a metal guitar backing. That formula has gotten them through quite a few albums, but eventually it got a bit stale for me. I tend to prefer my synthwave more purely electronic and my metal more purely metal apparently.
Virtuaverse.OST was the one exception. Here the melodies are still played with synths, and the metal guitars are still there... but the album leans more towards the synth side than the metal side. Or rather the synths have a metal edge to them that the other albums did not have. It gives them a bit more bite even without the metal guitar backing.
Additionally the melodies written here are more complete and catchy than the other ones that I remember from this project before. The sum total is a record that makes me want to come back for multiple listens rather than one I'm trying to turn off before the side ends. Great stuff.
