Style: video game music
Primary Emotions/Themes: a SNES Final Fantasy soundtrack, they don't get much better than this
Thoughts: Final Fantasy VI is one of my favorite games and soundtracks out there. Final Fantasy V is essentially the soundtrack that allows VI to happen.
All of the groundwork that bears fruit in the sequel game is started here. The melodies are on point and varied. Uematsu was experimenting more with different instrument combinations and more complex arrangements here as well. It's just a joy to listen to.
For VI I wrote a huge essay about what the game means to me etc, that is not going to be the case here. I'm going to let the music speak for itself and let the legacy of the game be it's own thing. Just know that this is one of the finest moments in both Final Fantasy in terms of game play as well as music. Essential stuff.
