Style: Ambient techno
Primary Emotions/Themes: Reflecting on life and it's rhythms
Thoughts: Sometimes I feel like I've hit a truly obscure gem. Something that has no digital footprint, something that you can't find a rip of anywhere. It simply does not exist outside of the medium you have it in.
I'm tempted to go on a side rant about why physical media is so important. Something about how even if it's taken off of streaming services it will still be there in physical form. Well whatever those arguments are they apply here.
Daihaus is one of those projects. I can't find anything about this record anywhere except for an obscure discogs entry. There is nothing on Youtube, there is nothing on bandcamp, there is nothing anywhere about this record that would tell you what the music sounds like.
Seeing the cover I would have thought maybe some folk music or indie rock... but it's far from that. The few minutes of music contained on this record is ambient music that has a strong rooting in EDM. The atmosphere is open and progresses slowly like so many ambient projects, but underneath it all there are strong driving beats that propel the music forward. This record is squarely in the ambient techno genre.
Unlike a lot of other EDM this music does not lean heavily into creating drops or huge moments. Rather is moves from mood to mood slowly and deliberately. These transitions are so slow that it's difficult to notice them as they are happening, but when comparing the start of the song to the end of the song it is obvious that the music has shifted. Sometimes rather significantly.
Daihaus is an enigmatic entry into my collection. I don't know anything about the project, and I can't find any information on it outside of the label that pressed it. I think though that that's part of the appeal to me. It's mysterious and it adds to the strangeness and mystique of the record. Now I'm gonna file it away until I remember I have it again and go through the wonder of discovering this obscure music once again.
