Entry 995 - Gunship - Dark All Day

Style: Synthwave

Primary Emotions/Themes: A trip down a dark alley with an inevitable conflict with creatures of the night. All this seen through the distortion of a VHS tape.

Thoughts: There were several music videos created for this album, but one stands above the others in terms of defining the sound and visual component of Gunship. The title track not only is a fantastic song, but the music video manages to capture everything that the band is about.

A truck rolls into an unfriendly town. Trash litters the street and there are bodies everywhere. The truck comes to an abrupt stop and a saxophone announces it's arrival. A male and female donning cloaks begin singing further announcing the bands arrival to this forsaken place.

The town is soon revealed to be infested with vampires... the band is here to remove them from existence. The music picks up and the band begins their purge, that is until the master vampire shows up. One by one they fall and are turned.

The music gets darker and darker as the song progresses and finally explodes into a climactic section where the animation is dropped and the band is seen in their full glory. Blood falls from the sky and the night has won.

Dark All Day (the album) is a beautiful take on the synthwave genre. It's dark (pun intended) without delving into the darksynth genre. It's catchy as all hell and it pays tribute to the glory days of the synth. Can't ask for much more.
