This record is one
of those pleasant surprises. I forgot that I had this in my collection
and I found it last night when organizing. Not remembering anything
about it I spun it.
Shay's Vacation House is solidly a dark
ambient album. There is no percussion here, it is largely devoid of
melody - it is merely a collection of sounds layered in such a way that
it evokes vivid imagery. This album could easily double as a soundtrack
to a classic horror movie.
The instrumentation used here seems to
be mostly analog in origin. This is purely speculation as I can't find
any information about what was used to record the album. It just has
that analog "feel" to it, something that digital instrumentation just
hasn't quite replicated yet.
It's always fun discovering a
forgotten album in the collection - in this case it was something that I
will likely revisit soon.
